Friday night, September 26th, 2025, was a thrilling evening for youth ball hockey at BHi Brantford 1. The Cherry Blasters faced off against the Brantford Royals in a game full of excitement and unexpected turns.
The Cherry Blasters started strong, scoring the first two goals of the game. The first goal, helped by Nathan Gilchrist and Keith Mead, sparked an electrifying atmosphere. Shortly after, Ryan Ashurst, assisted by Markus Mathurin, doubled their lead, leaving the Royals trailing behind.
However, the resilent Brantford Royals, didn’t let this deter them. Ethan Rossi turned the tables with a goal in the final minutes of the first period. Then, with just over a minute left in the period, Phinn Sinden, aided by Corey Bennett, levelled the scores.
Despite a scoreless second period filled with tension and penalties including Cherry Blasters’ Kourtney Balaga and Brendan Macleod, and Royals’ Sophie Allen, the third period saw the Royals rise to victory. Max Bennett, assisted by Tristan Barkman, put the Royals in the lead for the first time, and then Phinn Sinden, with help from Kate Walgraeve, extended their lead, sealing the Royals’ comeback victory.
The final whistle blew, marking a thrilling 4-2 victory for the Brantford Royals over the Cherry Blasters. The teams showed excellent sportsmanship and skills, giving the crowd a game they’ll remember for a long time. We can’t wait to see what the next match holds!
